It genuinely seems like a public service to be writing about Steven Evans, Beecroft Real Estate and BRE Platinum, because the story of our sale may well help others. So many people in the area are in exactly the same situation we were. The cliché, 'empty nesters', comes to mind, though Paul, my husband, and I, didn't feel in the least like the silver-haired folk with the cheerless smiles we see in ads for our demographic. What we DID feel, when we thought about moving, was really ambivalent about leaving the area, because we loved it, and our local network of friends and activities. Also, we loved the house we had lived in for over twenty years, and the bushland lifestyle which was perfect for our son as he grew up.

Realistically, though, our five bedroom house in Austral Avenue, set in large and leafy, high-maintenance grounds, was better suited to a young family. In fact, we had noted this turnover locally, as people our age moved on. Also, we were anxious to move to the beautiful Southern Highlands, where we could downsize, and relax with our family, especially, our gorgeous grandson. So, we spoke to some pleasant real estate agents, but still we dithered.

Amazingly, these doubts disappeared when we spoke to Steven Evans of Beecroft Real Estate. His empathy for our dilemma was apparent, and he had a natural warmth and good humour. He also appreciated our house, and its styling, and said so. This was crucial, as owners feel vulnerable at this time, and validating their homes, which, after all, they chose, is very important. It didn't mean that we weren't open to suggestions, as everything in life can be improved, but we saw that Steven believed in the design integrity of our house. As well, although Steven is incredibly proud, with good reason, of Beecroft Real Estate, which is his own company, he didn't spend his first meeting with us just extolling its benefits. He really listened to our own thoughts on selling, and then explained, to our satisfaction, how his firm could help us.

Steven was flexible and not in the least dogmatic, and did not push us to auction, or to private sale, but left that completely up to us. The notion of auction and a great deal of advertising had, up to then, been anathema to us. Although we wanted to sell, we had, paradoxically enough, somehow wanted to remain low key. Talking to Steven resolved this contradiction, and we decided to auction, as we trusted him to maintain our privacy, but at the same time showcase the house to the best of his ability, and to the greatest number of people.

So it proved! For example, on the second 'open' day for our house, I honestly said to Paul as we arrived home after the allotted time, 'Someone in the street must be having a party', as you could hardly get into our cul-de-sac for all the cars and people! It was pretty staggering to realise they were all still there from our open house! And Steven was as good as his word about buyer feedback. He communicated with us, day and night, as the situation progressed. Over two hundred people went through our house in just a couple of weeks, we had contracts out in all directions, and we sold before auction after nineteen days! On the day we exchanged, we had to cancel the 'open' we had planned for that night, and numbers of people were still trying to book in for extra inspections in the days following! It seemed surreal then and it still does!

Indeed, it had all been so hectic and successful, that many people asked why on earth we hadn't proceeded to auction. The answer is that Paul and I believe in that timeworn proverb about birds in hands, and that Steven had negotiated a price we were more than happy with, exactly as he had promised. It was our choice not to go to auction, no matter how many buyers might have turned up, as we were relieved to avoid the stress involved.

Now, thanks to Steven, we have moved to the Southern Highlands. Thanks are also due to the members of his excellent team, with particular mention of Alastair, whose support for their brilliant photographer helped create the amazing shots for our publicity.

So, if you are looking for someone to help you through your sale or purchase, then you cannot go past Steven Evans and Beecroft Real Estate. Steven was not only our agent, but a friend through it all, and we are now freed to enter, with great enthusiasm, the next phase of our lives.

In 2008/ 2009 we had attempted to sell for an initial 5 month period and then again for a additional 10 week period with another local company with no result, and at that time our daughter who lives in the UK was diagnosed with breast cancer, so we had to abandon our selling plans in order to travel and assist with the family situation.

I’m sure the reader will have no difficulty in imagining how worn and weary John and I were by the end of 2009. Our daughter, after a year of surgery and chemo was however cancer free and on the mend.
So we returned to the task of selling our house in 2010 feeling quite daunted.

Steve and his team soon lifted our spirits. The energy and enthusiasm they brought to the project was infectious. Every detail was discussed and considered. A comprehensive plan with clear objectives was put in place and executed with skill and pleasant good humour.

Imagine our surprise after only nine days when Steve rang and said he’d be round with a signed contract and a cheque that very afternoon. We couldn’t help but think that this “first offer” wasn’t going to be the one, so imagine our delight when it was in fact significantly in excess of our expectations.

We had discussed recent Beecroft sales with Steve and identified a comparable property - that was exactly the result he brought us. Obviously he was able to communicate effectively to the various interested parties what it would take to secure the purchase with no further ado.

Steve didn’t secure our business by promising an unrealistic outcome as many agents do. Instead he worked extremely hard to achieve the best result the market could deliver.

I’d like to say to any prospective sellers. Don’t be seduced by agents who promise to market your property at the highest price. They will only get you involved in “chasing the market down”, this is not a good experience and can in fact result in a less than optimum outcome, fortunately for us Steve and his team rescued us from this process and delivered a result that left us speechless!

Steve made no promises that he didn’t deliver on and that’s got to be the best possible way to do business, with integrity and honesty. He is also doing a great job to train his entire team in these same virtues.
John and I have no hesitation in recommending Steve’s services to the entire population of Beecroft and Cheltenham, and Greater Sydney for that matter, as I’m sure his business can only grow and flourish in the future.
